About Derby Aboriginal Health Service

Derby Aboriginal Health Service (DAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) providing holistic primary health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Derby and surrounding communities. DAHS provides a wide range of innovative public health programs in addition to direct comprehensive primary health care services. It is required to comply with a number of Service Agreements with Commonwealth and State departments and agencies, and to operate with a number of government and private medical and health delivery organizations.

About the Opportunity

Derby Aboriginal Health Service (DAHS) now has a number of rewarding opportunities for full-time Registered Nurses to join their team in Derby, WA.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Client Services Operations, you will be primarily responsible for delivering health service activities to the designated communities within the context of Primary Health Care in a professional, confidential and culturally safe manner.

Your day-to-day duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Providing quality Primary Health Care to individuals, families and the community;
  • Utilising a holistic approach to assessing clients and families, and supporting and developing patient understanding of their condition, treatment and prevention strategies;
  • Conducting opportunistic screening and follow-up of patients as per MMEX Patient Information System;
  • Mentoring and developing Aboriginal Health Worker Trainees and other students whilst undertaking clinical placements;
  • Providing direct clinical care and after hours clinical support where required;
  • Promoting community involvement in Health Promotion strategies;
  • Coordinate remote area patient referrals for specialist care; and
  • Ensuring maintenance and confidentiality information systems such as patient health records, computer systems, statistics and other records as required for the efficient, effective management of clients.

General Requirements

DAHS is seeking RNs with AHPRA registration, and demonstrated post-graduate experience in the delivery of aboriginal primary health care services, within a clinical setting. Importantly, successful candidates will have an understanding of Aboriginal culture and the issues affecting health and health outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Due to the nature of the role, it's essential you have a proven ability to plan and manage your workload with little supervision; autonomous experience in a remote Aboriginal Community or cross cultural setting will be highly regarded.

Effective communication skills and ability to produce reports will be crucial, as will the ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of relevant professionals and the community.
